A-List Screenwriting: The Lecture
This stand-alone weekend class (16 hours) covers story structure, scene structure, film analysis, and principles of screenwriting from A to Z. The tools from this class will assist writers of all types, including screenwriters, playwrights, stand-up comics, commercial writers, video artists, songwriters, and novelists.
Jim uses script excerpts, clips, and discussion from classic and modern movies and even samples from songs and viral videos. In the spirit of the weeklong workshop, this class includes a limited interactive portion where a few students' scenes, pages, loglines, and one pitch will be analyzed. Whether it's a thematic analysis of The Dark Knight or a discussion of an Andy Samberg YouTube video, the range and specificity of examples used as instructional aids will astound you. Jim's background as a filmmaker contributes to his strength as a teacher. He has high standards for writing and storytelling. He wants your material to be so good that an A-list actor will be excited to come out of his trailer to do your scene. You will look at story and storytelling craft in a brand-new way.
